Benefits of a Fluoride Water Filter
Fluoride is a natural mineral that has been found to help prevent tooth decay. Most toothpastes include a certain amount of fluoride to help harden the enamel on teeth. This natural mineral is often found in drinking water, and some municipalities have decided that more is better and have added fluoride to the city drinking water supply. However, when the natural water already has plenty of fluorine in it, if additional fluoride is added, it may do more harm than good. This is why some people prefer to use a fluoride water filter to remove excess fluoride from their drinking water.
Many people are coming to understand that having a concentration about 5 mg/l is actually bad for the structure of the teeth. Some waste water from certain manufacturing operations contains very high levels of fluoride, and this can sometimes mix with drinking water.
There are two techniques that are used in the different fluoride water filter systems that are generally available today. The first is a reverse osmosis water filter, which can remove some of the fluoride along with other contaminants. Probably more popular is the cartridge filter that is designed specifically to eliminate the excess fluoride from your water.
With a countertop fluoride water filter, a fine mesh pre-resin media is frequently used to lower the fluoride content to 0.5 ppm or lower. This type of system sits right on the countertop and uses an adaptor to connect to a standard kitchen faucet. You can get a fluoride water filter that uses one filter just for the fluoride. You can also get models that use 2 or 3 filters to help reduce other contaminants such as chlorine.
Another place to use a fluoride water filter is with your ice maker in your refrigerator. It works in line with the water and ice maker to purify your water there. Under-sink models can come with single, dual, or triple filters. It is important to follow the manufacturer’s directions to change the cartridges regularly to keep your water clear of the excess fluoride.
If you don’t want to use filters at each water source in your house, you can opt for the whole house filter. This type of filter is designed to remove the fluoride from water before it enters your home. It is designed so that it does not impact the water pressure or flow into the home. There are usually three stages of filtration which reduce the fluoride, sediment, and many contaminants that are present in municipal water. By using either the individual filters or the whole house filter, you can be assured that you are not consuming excess amounts of fluoride. A fluoride water filter can be a great option for your water filter needs.
